The country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Drone Didi Yojana on November 30 through video conferencing. Meanwhile, he also interacted with the participants of Vikas Bharat Sankalp Yatra. Under the Drone Didi Yojana, drones will be provided to 15,000 women self-help groups at a cost of Rs 1261 crore over the next few years.
When was Namo Drone Didi Yojana started?
Namo Drone Didi Yojana was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022. Under this, a target has been set to train 1 lakh women in the next 5 years. The scheme will be implemented by Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) across the country.

Under Namo Drone Didi Yojana, women are trained on how to fly drones, analyze data related to drones and how to maintain drones. They are also trained for various agricultural operations using drones. It includes tasks like crop monitoring, spraying of pesticides and fertilizers and sowing of seeds.
In the interim budget presented on February 1, an allocation of Rs 500 crore has been made for the Drone Didi scheme for this year. This allocation is 2.5 times more than last year. Last year, 200 crore rupees were allocated for this scheme.
Through the Drone Didi scheme, drones will help farmers in spraying fertilizers and pesticides. For this the beneficiary women will be trained for about 15 days. Drone pilots and co-pilots are paid a fixed amount per month for flying drones. Apart from this, women are also given assistance up to 80 percent of its cost or a maximum of Rs 8 lakh to purchase a drone. Drone Didi Yojana is beneficial for women in many ways. The main objective of this scheme is women empowerment. This scheme will give them a foothold financially.
