Counting has begun for the US elections; US networks have projected that Donald Trump is winning 23 states and Kamala Harris 11. As for electoral college numbers, which will determine the winner in this election, the former President is ahead with 247 votes and Harris trails with 214. Each candidate is aiming for the magic figure of 270 electoral college votes.

Of the seven swing states, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, known as part of the Rust Belt, have been traditionally the strongholds of the Democratic Party. The four swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina are called Sun Belt with a total electoral college vote of 49.

Trump won North Carolina with a 50.8% vote share compared to Harris’s 48.0%. In Pennsylvania, which is 63% counted, Trump holds 51.0% against Harris’s 48.1%. In Georgia, Trump’s lead sits at 51.1% over Harris’s 48.2%, with 90% of votes counted. Meanwhile, Wisconsin shows Trump at 50.0% against Harris’s 48.5%, with 56% of the vote in. Michigan remains a close contest with Trump at 50.4% and Harris at 47.8%, with 26% of votes counted.
With the possibility of Donald Trump returning to the White House, questions loom over what a second Trump administration would mean for India-US relations.
